St. James offers two unique worship experiences. The 8:30 a.m. worship service uses one of ten liturgical settings from “Evangelical Lutheran Worship”, the hymn book of the ELCA. Holy Communion is offered weekly. We supplement the hymnody there with psalms, choir anthems, and the various gifts and talents of members, guests, and friends. The 11:00 a.m. service is a more casual gathering of scripture, song, and participation. We begin with an opening song together, a litany of welcome, and the reading of scripture and homily to set the tone for the day. After this “all together” time worshipers are free to move between experiences. The “Song Circle” provides a place for people to sing their favorite songs as we have collected them in a loose leaf songbook. Your favorite not there yet? Request it and it will be next week! Holy Communion is offered as the Song Circle sings, so feel free to move from singing to receiving the meal. Singing not your thing, but enjoying music is? Gravitate to the Baptismal Font for personal prayer and reflection time, and a few printed resources to help you focus your thoughts. Want to engage the scriptures? Move to the Narthex/Entry area where you’ll find the preacher for the day ready to join in conversation about the scripture or homily. The Service ends with a re-gathering, the Lord’s Prayer, and Benediction. Feel free to engage where you are led by the Spirit in the moment. Fellowship and Coffee is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Education Hour for all ages happens from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Food Pantry Opens at 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Volunteers for distribution welcome!
