Lecture Series

Tengdin-Werner Lecture Series

The Tengdin-Werner Lecture Series was established to honor the memory of Phyllis Werner and her mother, Agnes Tengdin.

The Lecture series is presented at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday Mornings between services as a part of St. James Lutheran’s Adult Education Program. The theme for the lecture series is set annually in consultation with the family and the preferred present.

In 2017 it will again be our great pleasure to feature Dr. William Stancil, professor at Rockhurst University.

The Hard Commands of Jesus

Some of the commands of Jesus are hard because we don’t understand them. Often, however, we understand them all too well but find them difficult to obey. These sessions will explore some of the most difficult sayings of Jesus.

1/8/2017 Session 1 Go, Sell What You Have (Mk 10:21)
1/15/2017 Session 2 Love Your Enemies (Mt 5:43-45)
1/22/2017 Session 3 Do Not Be Anxious (Mt 6:31-32)
1/29/2017 Session 4 Take Up Your Cross (Mk 8:34)

Please invite friends and neighbors for this Lecture Series on Sunday Mornings, made possible by a generous granting from the family of Dean and Phyllis Werner, in memory of Dean and Phyllis Werner and Agnes Tengdin.
