We extend a welcome to those who are single, married, divorce, gay, straight, transgender, filthy rich, pauper poor, Black, Latino, Asian, Native American or eccentric, white and pasty or tanned and buff are welcome, too.

We extend a special welcome if you are new born, first born, re-born, or unborn, and just sitting around waiting for the delivery.  The unsure, unaware or unintentionally just on the doorstep are welcome as well.

You’re welcome here if you are “just browsing”, “just woke up”, “just got out of jail”, “just got out of rehab”, or are just not sure about this whole “church thing.”

Get the picture?

We’re not perfect and we don’t expect you to be either.

God works with what shows up and does amazing things not because of who we are but because of who God is and what God is able to do with us!

We enjoy the presence of children in our worship at all times; but do provide a nursery space with closed circuit television of the service if you need to give your children a break from sitting in worship.

Here you are among the friends and followers of Jesus as we make our way on a journey through the scriptures!

We invite you to share in worship with us as God gives us this gift of grace. We also ask that your sign your name in the blue book at the end of the pew. This is one of our ways of staying in touch and caring for each other.

We enjoy the presence of children in our worship at all times, but we have an unstaffed nursery space with closed circuit television connection to the worship in case your little one needs a break.

St. James is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and a part of the Central States Synod.

St. James is a “Reconciling in Christ” congregation, which is to say that people of all sexual orientations and gender identities share the worth that comes from being unique individuals created by God; are welcome within the membership of this congregation upon making a common, public Affirmation of faith; and that as members of this congregation, are expected and encouraged to share in the sacramental and general life of this congregation.

St. James is a congregation committed to outreach and service.   We give generously beyond our own doors to the community, the wider church, and to needs and causes as they occur.
St James is a congregation that cares deeply about Justice and working with those who have economic and social need.   We partner with Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries to host a site on campus, and operate a supplemental pantry program and “BackSnack” program for youth on free or reduced lunch program by providing nutrition to young people and their families.
