Lutherans Restoring Creation Event

LRCJanuary marks the time for Annual Congregational Meetings and budget proposals. How would you like to learn about ways to lower your expenditures through energy efficiency measures and possible rebates?

Lutherans Restoring Creation Mission Table and Metropolitan Energy Center are partnering with host Atonement Lutheran Church (9948 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS) on Sunday, January 13, noon – 2 pm, to share ideas with you about these possibilities.

We’ll gather for a light lunch at noon, followed by a presentation by MEC about the work they do through their Energy Solutions Hub program, focusing on:

  • low and no-cost energy efficiency measures
  • utility rebates available for building owners like you
  • job potential in the energy efficiency sector.

From MEC:

“Our Energy Solutions Hub continues the work of the City Energy Project. We promote energy efficiency in the built environment through:

  • one-on-one concierge service,
  • industry-specific trainings and online resources,
  • energy benchmarking support, and
  • peer-to-peer mentoring sessions.

Our goal is to reduce local commercial energy demand by 4% within 2 years, generating annual results of 344k fewer metric tons of CO2 emissions and $40 million in consumer savings. We expect our efforts to have additional long-term outcomes as well. By providing the tools, materials, and individual support facility managers need, the Hub will grow the KC market for energy efficiency improvements, resulting in economic stimulus and local job creation.”

In addition, this event will help us as a Synod fulfill the resolution passed at the 2018 Synod Assembly encouraging all congregations to become “green congregations” with Green Teams that will evaluate the building and grounds of the congregation and take a minimum of two steps each year to help reduce the congregation’s negative impact upon the environment.

In order to plan for lunch, please email Noni Strand, Chair of the LRC Mission Table, at nonistrand@gmail.com with an approximate number of people who will attend from your congregation. There is no charge – just free will donations.

Also, please Save the Date for the LRC Creation Care Workshop at Hollis Renewal Center on March 2, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm. Registration is at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/creation-care-workshop-2019-lutherans-restoring-creation-lrc-tickets-50178420005?aff=ebdssbdestsearch
